Tuesday, August 3, 2021
To all Bay Brook EMS Parents, Guardians and Community,
Welcome to another school year! On behalf of the Bay Brook EMS staff, I want to welcome you to our school and wish you a phenomenal year! For the first time in a year and a half, we will be ALL BE BACK! We have a lot of great things planned for this year and we truly cannot wait until your kids are with us learning in our beautiful facility. If you are a new family, or if you just want to catch up with us and take a tour of the school, please join us for one of the following opportunities:
August 12th 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM – New Student Orientation – Please pre-register for this small group orientation to
Bay Brook EMS. This opportunity is for new families coming to Bay Brook for the first time this year. You can find the link
to register by going online to: https://forms.gle/Ms8JhpD2j7uR1kE67 or by calling the school at
August 26th 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM Teacher Meet and Greet – Come check out our school and visit your students’ room so you can meet your teachers! They can’t wait to see you!
August 26th 4:00 PMBack to School Party – Please join us to celebrate the beginning of a new school year! You  might catch our teachers sweaty and tired from getting their rooms ready for you! So we’ll celebrate with some KONA ICE and music!
September 23rd 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM – Back to School Fair – Come join our staff and community partners to celebrate
our school year
In addition to these opportunities, I also want to announce that our new uniforms are now available for purchase at the school. Our students helped design these last year and they are meant to look good, but allow kids to be comfortable while learning as well. We do not believe wearing school uniform should be a stressful consideration for parents, so we have made the cost of these items very low and provided various options. Students that still have older uniforms may still wear those – the new choices are simply there to give more options. In addition, parents may choose to purchase uniform shirts and pants for their students outside of the school as well if they can find better deals (unlikely – we really priced them well!). We do ask families to follow these general uniform guidelines:
Grades PreK – 2 – Should wear white tops and kaki or navy bottoms. Bottoms  may optionally be athletic pants in addition to khakis.
Grades 3-5 Should wear orange tops and kaki or navy bottoms. Bottoms may optionally be athletic jogger pants in
addition to khakis.
Grades 6-8 Should wear navy blue tops and kaki or navy bottoms. Bottoms may optionally be athletic jogger pants in
addition to kakis.
We do ask families not to send students in short skirts, jeans or leggings that are too tight. The full catalog can be found in our baybrookems.org site. Please come to the school to purchase uniforms beginning Wednesday August 11th from 9 AM to 1 PM during our registration times.
We really look forward to serving your family this year. If you have any other questions, please do not forget to contact our office at 410-396-1357 during our normal office hours.
Thank you,
Mr. Christian Licier

Dear Bay Brook Families,

This is an update from our last message regarding positive COVID pools from Tuesday’s testing. As you know, a positive pool test means that at least one person in the pool tested positive for COVID and that all members of the pool, including your student, are required to quarantine for 14 days from the date of the test.

All students and staff in a positive pool are required to be individually tested within seven (7) days of the initial positive pool test. The University of Maryland testing van will be onsite at Bay Brook EMS on Monday, April 19th at 10:15 AM and 12:15 PM and will offer free COVID testing at that time to your child, as well as any members of your household who would like to be tested. Alternatively, you can make arrangements to have your student receive a PCR COVID-19 test elsewhere – as long as the test is completed within the 7-day period from the initial positive test.

Individuals who have had COVID can continue to test positive for the virus for up to 90 days after they had the virus. To ensure the integrity and accuracy of our asymptomatic testing program going forward, we need to know which students or staff in the pool were COVID positive. Any individual who is identified as COVID positive will be excluded from the regular asymptomatic testing for the next 90 days, as their inclusion in the asymptomatic testing during that period could invalidate the results of the pool testing.

Regardless of whether an individual tests positive or negative, all individuals are safe to return to school at the close of the quarantine period as long as they are free of any COVID symptoms.

We are so pleased your child has returned to in-person learning and thank you for all your efforts to ensure all staff and students pursuing in-person learning remain safe. We will continue to review and improve our testing procedures moving forward as needed to protect the health and safety of staff and students.

If you have any questions regarding the need to have your student individually tested, please contact the main office at 410-396-1357. Thank you for helping us to keep our students and staff safe.

Dear Bay Brook Eagles community,

Baltimore City Public Schools continues to monitor local health data and consult with experts about the COVID-19 pandemic to make the decisions that best protect our students and staff’s health. We are writing to update you about how this impacts in-person learning opportunities at our school.

Our school will continue to offer in-person learning opportunities for students in our Student Learning Center and in English learning programs. Students that participate in in-person learning should continue with their daily schedules.

We are working with Baltimore City Health Department and our Health Advisory Committee to ensure we are taking all necessary steps to keep students and staff safe, including following our health and safety procedures, which you can read more about at https://www.baltimorecityschools.org/safety-procedures.

Soon, City Schools will begin implementing on-site testing at schools and launch a web-based dashboard regarding school-based cases where you can receive the latest updates about your school and district-wide. City Schools will update you more about these items in the coming days.

These rising rates city-wide are naturally a cause for concern. But we are fortunate that our schools’ situation has been much different since we began bringing prioritized students back to the classroom during the summer.

In the six weeks since City Schools opened its Students Learning Centers and small learning opportunities on September 28, we have experienced just one positive case for individuals working or learning at our in-person learning sites. The district also has not encountered a single case of transmission of COVID between individuals working or learning on site.

Thank you for being an active and engaged presence in your student’s learning. If you have questions about the in-person learning option, please call me at 410-396-1357

or email me at clicier@bcps.k12.md.us

Thank you!

o envíeme un correo electrónico a clicier@bcps.k12.md.us

CONGRATULATIONS Mr. Licier for being acknowledged as PRINCIPAL OF THE MONTH

“Christian Licier (Bay Brook Elementary Middle School)- Principal Licier has found innovative ways to stay connected to students and staff daily, even in this virtual setting. He strives to engage staff in making the best decisions for Bay Brook students and wants to see all stakeholders succeed. (John Davis, 10/20/2020).”

Good evening Bay Brook Family,
This is Principal Licier with some important updates. First, I’d like to thank everyone in our school community for the hard work they’ve put in completing our various assessments these past weeks. Completing these assessments give us an important starting line indicating where your student stands in terms of learning.
Assessments are extremely important for schools. Last year, the district made important changes to all school grading policies. Assessments count for 70% of a students’ overall grade. Currently, many students’ grades do not reflect what they are truly capable of because they are not submitting assignments that count as formative assessment grades.
Parents, please help us ensure your students are completing assignments given by your teachers. We will try to improve our efforts at communicating when your students might not be fully engaged in virtual classrooms. Please log in to Parent Portal in order to track your students’ progress.
Lastly, please consider joining us on our Halloween Parade event on Friday. Details have been shared this week during morning announcements and can also be found on Class Dojo and above.
Thank you, and have a great evening!

Good afternoon Bay Brook Eagles,
As I mentioned earlier, our goal is to eliminate the blanket zoom links as soon as possible to ensure safe zoom experiences. The district is also conscious of this and has given important deadlines for this to occur. Please ensure that all students are logging into clever before the deadline. The zoom links should be easily seen and accessible from each virtual classroom in Class Dojo, Google Classroom, Seesaw, and Clever.
Thanks and have a great weekend!

Good afternoon Bay Brook Eagles,

This is Principal Licier with some very important information. First, I want to thank everyone for their patience as we get virtual learning underway. As of this morning, Most of our classrooms are over 85% attended with some classrooms only missing one parent to join on Class Dojo! I want to extend to you an opportunity that is being offered by the District at Bay Brook starting September 28th.

City Schools will be partnering with Baltimore City Parks and Rec to provide more than 1,000 students in-person access to their virtual learning lessons via 15 locations in both schools and city recreation centers.  The program is designed to provide students, in grades K-5, an opportunity to participate in virtual learning in small cohort groups led by a distance learning proctor.  The program with operate daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Prioritized consideration for the program will be for students of parents who continue to work in-person during the pandemic, students who were unable to actively participate in the spring virtual learning and homeless and foster care students.  If a family believes their student meets this criterial they will need to complete a survey using Parent Portal or by contacting the district office hotline 443-642-2001 choose Option 1. The survey will be available to families from now until September 11.

Good afternoon Bay Brook Eagles!

This is Principal Licier with some updates! First, I want to start by saying we sincerely apologize for any confusion regarding device distribution. The district team sent word that we should distribute devices but the logistics required that we delay that process. That will happen next week but the district has not yet given us the ok to begin. We already have the names based on our survey submitted before so calling you to set up an appointment should be pretty painless. There is so much to share with you! I can’t wait to get to know all of the parents and students and to let you know everything we have in store for you this coming school year. I will be scheduling several opportunities in the next week for you to meet with me virtually and to have a virtual school orientation. During the next month, we will also provide opportunities for you to come in personally, and tour the building if you would like. The schedule of activities will be posted on our school website and on class dojo by Close of Business Monday, August 31st.

Thank you so much, and have a blessed weekend.

August 18, 2020

Good afternoon Bay Brook Eagles Family,

My name is Christian Licier and I will be serving as your new principal this year! I am beyond excited to work with this community and provide your children with the best education Baltimore can offer. This year, there will be many changes to your students’ virtual learning experience. You will be hearing from me soon to provide important updates for virtual student and family orientations.

Currently, we are preparing to distribute computer devices to any student who still may not have one from last Spring. The distribution will begin next week, but because of our health situation, we will require that an appointment be made first before you come to pick them up. I will be sending a link to a quick survey that you can fill out that will help our staff contact you to set up an appointment. You may also call the school to set up an appointment. The Bay Brook staff is really excited to begin this school year and welcome all of you! Until then, stay safe and take care.

Click here to take the quick survey!

Mr. Christian Licier
Bay Brook Elementary\Middle School

Learning has changed due to the pandemic crisis, driving us to look for new ways of learning. This change has clearly fostered hope and excitement in the Bay Brook community that is palpable. I am truly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve and act as the catalyst for the future of this school and community.

Within the next few weeks you will be hearing more and more from me. I will take the time to reach out to all stakeholders during the summer weeks in an effort to learn everything I can about you and the school, including staff, students, parents and partners. My duty is to serve you all in this community and ensure that we achieve everything you hope for. My goal is simple: create and operate the best school that can provide an exceptional learning experience for all of its students. Working collaboratively, we will ensure we achieve that goal that our children deserve.

I can’t wait to put my energy, heart and soul into this community and this effort. I love Baltimore and I love our kids. Working together, we will build a world-class educational experience for them. We will build a culture that is so strong they’ll remember Bay Brook as adults. We will build a climate that is so supportive they will be able to grow into young men and women with strong character and respect for their community and each other. We will guide them in their quest to find their personal, unique voice. The world expects no less from us and we will meet that challenge.

For now, enjoy your weeks of summer. There is a lot of hard work ahead with a rewarding end.
