Community

What is a community school?

A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on academics, health, social services, youth and community development, and community engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families, and healthier communities.

Bay Brook EMS became a community school in 2020 after moving into the new 21st Century Schools building. A full-time Community School Coordinator joined the school staff to complete ongoing needs assessments, seek out and oversee partnerships to meet needs, and be a liaison between the school and the greater Baybrook community.

In addition to the needs assessments completed by the Community School Coordinator, the INSPIRE Plan, conducted by the Baltimore City Department of Planning as a part of the 21st Century Building construction, is also a source of guidance for the direction of the school and its partnerships.

Check out our Community Partners tab to learn about some of our current partners and find links to our partnerships in the news! We also share a lot of community resources. Check out the Family & Community Resources tab to learn more.
